The lost art of…dating

December 9, 2010

Mi Vida Loca

It’s been a while since I was on a real date and it’s for a very good reason. No one asks anymore. I used to think that was a reflection on me but after speaking with many friends and acquaintances, I’ve realized it’s almost an obsolete practice. I wonder if it has to do with the sexual revolution or if people just don’t find it necessary anymore and if it has just taken on the name of hanging out.

Since I feel that society has gotten lazy on many things, I’m inclined to think that it has just taken on the name of ‘hanging out’ to ease the pressure. As much as I’m for ease, I think we trade ease for excitement. We say to ourselves, “If we’re just hanging out, seeing how it goes we tend to care just a little less and in return get a little less of the “what ifs” that can be so much fun.

It’s been a while since my last awesome date (I’ve had mediocre ones though), but I’ll keep on not dating until I get something similar. I refuse to settle for anything less than pure unadulterated butterflies and anxiety!

Everyone else can just ‘hang out.’
